Bird Removal

How We Help You

Bird removal in Hamilton, the Greater Toronto Area, and London continues to be a need for residential and commercial businesses. Ontario is home to various bird species, from the tiny hummingbird to the Canadian Goose. Birds range in shapes, sizes, and colors and include non-native migratory birds. Birds become pests when they nest and mess on homes, businesses, or residential properties. Birds can cause health issues and Histoplasmosis due to bacteria found in their droppings. Having nesting removed by a trained professional is often necessary to prevent Ornithosis which can be transmitted by handling bird droppings, nesting material, and feathers.

At Integrity Wildlife Control, we spent the last 20 years developing humane methods to remove and control birds. We use a combination of methods, including nets and bird spikes, to prevent birds from roosting and building messy nests. Our services include nest removal and fecal cleanup, and deodorizing. Our four-step process includes an inspection to determine the type of bird, how to prevent the birds from returning, and the cost. Then we remove the birds and clean up all of their toxic nesting material and waste. We disinfect the entire area. Finally, we place preventative materials to keep bird pests out of your property.

ABC's of Birds

Appearance

We help remove various bird species, but some of the most common pests include Pigeons, Starlings, Sparrows, and Canadian Geese. Pigeons have been called "rats with wings" because of their prevalence and ability to get anywhere. Their wings are light gray with black bands, and their necks are purplish green. Sparrows are small birds that are brown with a light chest. Starlings are blackish and have various spotting patterns. Canadian Geese are the largest birds we control. They have a black head, and a white chin strap. Their large bodies are tan and brown, and they boast the largest wingspan of bird pests at 125-185 cm.

Behavior

Birds have various behaviors depending on their species. Pigeons prefer the cities where they are often seen on the street, walking around eating what they can find. Starlings prefer yards and woodlands and hop around. Starlings travel in large groups of thousands, called a murmuration. Canadian Geese fly in their famous V formation and are so devoted to each other that they travel in pairs and mate for life.

Cycle of Life

Many bird species that are viewed as pests are migratory birds. They fly to warmer temperatures when it gets below freezing and then return as the weather changes. Some birds prefer to build their nests as high as possible, and others make their nests on the ground. Most birds have 4 or 5 eggs and the official nesting season in Ontario is from February until August. During this period, birds are busy building their nests, sitting on the eggs, and feeding their young. Many bird species in Ontario can live over 20 years.

Are the birds harmed during the removal?

No. We never harm animals and take extreme measures not to harm birds or their young. Some birds are protected and require following specific safe handling practices. If the birds have eggs we place them in a box close to their original location so that the mother can tend to the eggs.

Where do birds build their nests?

Birds nest anywhere that is off the ground and safe from predators. Common places include roof vents, wall vents, gutters, garages, under porches, and roofs and windows. The nests need to be removed even if the birds are no longer nesting because the nest can contain dangerous bacteria and cause Histoplasmosis.

How can I prevent birds from pooping on my property?

While it is impossible to prevent flying birds from occasionally pooping on your vehicles or house, birds can be prevented from nesting in an area and getting droppings on a site. Custom nets, spikes, and other exclusions can control your home or business from becoming an unsanitary location by nesting birds.

What diseases do birds carry?

There are many health issues derived from birds and bird waste, such as

Lyme disease, Histoplasmosis, Salmonella, and E.Coli. The birds and their nesting material are a breeding ground for bacteria. Extreme caution needs to be taken when removing nesting material, and fitted respirators and gloves must be worn. If the nesting material is in the vents of a home, the danger lies in the bacteria being circulated through the air system. Bird and nesting removal is a job best left to professionals who are trained in safe handling and cleaning.

What if I find a baby bird in my yard?

If you find a baby bird in your yard, you should leave it alone. When baby birds (fledgling) are growing up, they venture out of the nest and are often aided by their parents in finding food. While it might look like the bird is abandoned, it is actually being well taken care of by the parents.

How much is bird removal?

Bird removal cost depends based on the location and measures that need to be taken to prevent the birds from returning. Bird removal and deodorization start at $289. To get a better estimate, give us a call so that we can have a better understanding of your situation and needs.
